Discover the beauty of aquaponics with the new 29 Gal. AquaSprouts® Garden. As fish produce waste, plants use that waste as their nutrients to grow, while also cleaning the tank’s water. Fits any standard 29 gal. aquarium, and is made in the USA from durable birch hardwood.

IN THE BOX:

  • GROW BED & BIRCH FRAME:

Birch frame housing fits over the aquarium with the accompanying custom-molded grow-bed. Modern design complements a range of styles. Fits any standard 29-gallon aquarium approximately 30”L x 12”W x 18”H (not included).

  • PUMP & SMART PLUG:

The Garden kit includes all necessary plumbing fittings, a submersible 160 gallon per hour pump and a Wi-Fi app controlled smart plug (requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network) for controlling flood and drain cycles. Both include a 2-year warranty.

  • LIGHT BAR:

Removable lighting mounts allows you to hang a grow light of your choice above the Garden, and can even be further extended to accommodate taller plants. The light bar allows you to use your Garden anywhere, even when there may not be sufficient natural light.

  • GROW MEDIA:

Porous clay pebbles act as a mechanical filter and biofilter substrate, trapping fish waste and uneaten food while providing ample surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow and convert the waste into nutrients for your plants. (Grow media does not degrade)

NATURAL

The Garden’s design is simple, freestanding, and virtually maintenance-free, making indoor gardening and a beautiful aquarium accessible to anyone regardless of experience with fish or plants. It eliminates the need for traditional fertilizers using the same principles that recycle wastes in natural ecosystems, making upkeep as simple as feeding your fish.

BEAUTIFUL

Demonstrate first-hand a variety of concepts in chemistry, biology, and ecology. It’s an especially great tool for keeping kids engaged, a living model ecosystem that they can interact with as they watch the transformation of the energy in fish food into waste, plants, and ultimately herbs, greens, and even fruits for them to enjoy.

IS THE GARDEN DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN ?

We created the Garden specifically for beginners and those who are looking for an easy-to-use aquaponic system. The Garden doesn't require any specialized tools nor do you need any previous aquaponics experience. In addition, we provide a written step-by-step guide to help you set up and maintain your Garden. Our team is also dedicated to providing the best customer service possible to assist anyone who may have questions or need help.

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE MY GLASS AQUARIUM?

The AquaSprouts Garden will work with any standard US 29-gallon rectangular aquarium approximately 30" x 12" x 18". These are available from a variety of manufacturers at most pet supply stores, aquarium shops, and some big box retailers, as well as online (few examples here, here & here).

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED FOR MY GARDEN?

At this time we do not offer a 'bundle' option for the 29 Gal. AquaSprouts Garden. You'll need to procure any gravel/décor you want to add to the tank, and, of course, fish, fish food, and water conditioner or a source of dechlorinated water. A grow light is optional but greatly expands the range of plants you can successfully grow.

There are a couple optional items that might improve your experience. A supplemental aerator can serve as an excellent failsafe, though it’s not a requirement. It's important to avoid using carbon or zeolite filters, as they can interfere with the cycling process and hinder the establishment of beneficial bacteria.

If you're setting up in a colder or uncontrolled environment, a tank heater is advisable, as most aquarium fish prefer warmer, tropical conditions. Most aquarium fish are tropical and require a fairly narrow, warm temperature range, but you can also select more adaptable fish like platies, mollies or common goldfish.

CAN I USE A STANDARD GLASS CANOPY & BRACKET LIGHT?

Yes, but due to the drain configuration inside the grow-bed you may need to make some slight modifications. We're in the process of manufacturing a custom canopy cover that will be sold separately for those interested.

While there may be enough clearance between the grow-bed and aquarium for some slim aquarium hoods, it is not recommended for use with the AquaSprouts Garden. You can use any standalone aquarium light and attach to either the aquarium's rim or outfit with a bracket light.

Here we grow!

The tank is in the lobby, the plants are growing and thanks to the help of some 8th graders, our aquasprouts system is up and pumping! Our water quality checks got a green light and our animal club introduced our first school to our aquasprouts garden, 5 Cardinal Tetras.
